The Clinical Microbiology Department of BMCH focuses on MBBS education. The Clinical Microbiology Laboratory serves as a backbone in UG teaching and Patient diagnosis and is adjunctive for excellence in Patient care and Management.
The Department has several functional subdivisions and the diagnostic laboratory handles approximately 80 – 100 samples per day. The divisions in the laboratory include Bacteriology, Serology, Mycology, Virology, Parasitology, Mycobacteriology and Molecular Biology .The Molecular Biology Laboratory is accredited by the NABL/ ICMR Since 2020 and regularly participating in the EQAS Program conducted by ICMR with 100% concordant results in the diagnosis of COVID-19 patients by RT-PCR method.
The laboratory has the expertise to diagnose all infectious diseases and offer support for the Management of infections in the Hospital and Community. The diagnostic service is offered on all days of the year 24 hours.
The department plays a pivotal role in infection control activities at the hospital and provides regular training program for all the staff. The staff are well trained in implementing COVID 19 infection control measures. The department is equipped with highly talented and experienced faculties who have worked and trained in various specialities of this field. The faculties both Senior & Junior have many National and International Publications to their credit.
The Department has well qualified efficient Faculty members and regularly conducting Continuing Medical Education activities in the form of Medical Education activities in the form of CME’s/Seminars and workshop as a part of Faculty development program.
The department has hosted Awareness program on COVID 19 in the form of CME and hands on training during 2020-2021 for both teaching and non teaching staff.
